The Sacred Fool, the Ego of Embodiment & Slaying the Demon
Aimee Rebekah Shea, CHT
“There is no greater illusion than fear,
no greater wrong than preparing to defend yourself,
no greater misfortune than having an enemy.
Whoever can see through all fear will always be safe.”
Lao Tzu
I am you, only different.
Carl Jung teaches us that condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Condemnation not only oppresses the other, when you participate in condemnation, it oppresses the light within your own mind.
At the root of condemnation is a desire to feel safe. To feel safe, human beings create separation and exclude others who aren’t like them. We justify anger and violence with the mistaken belief that those who are “different” deserve condemnation. A Course in Miracles teaches us that sickness is always a result of minds that separate; healing is always a result of minds that unite. To see another person as worthy of ‘blame’ or ‘condemnation’ is creating a fertile ground for sickness.
The key to healing is to see the innocence present. To choose to look for innocence requires a deep wisdom that understands life is complex and people are complex. It is to understand that each moment is a choice and sometimes people make choices that are harmful. It's best to believe in the good in people and trust that all people can change. It is to trust that if there is not love present, then it is a call to love more deeply.
When it is hard to see the innocence present - this is when diligent perception of innocence is the most important. That does not mean we don’t hold people or ourselves accountable. That does not mean we stay in dangerous situations. It means that deep within our hearts, we consciously create space to forgive. We choose to see that although we may have stumbled in our journey on Earth that does not make us less deserving of love.
When I think of seeing innocence I am reminded of one of my favorite poems, I have read this poem at least a hundred times, it does something to me every time! Here it is: (Artwork by Tania Crossingham):
This is our true purpose here together; to choose to see the innocence in others, to choose to see all that is not love as a call for love. Choosing to see the innocence in another is known as the Holy Instant and it is the foundation for all miracles.
The Sacred Fool
The sacred fool is the wisest of us all. She respects the chaos as part of the perfect unfolding. Through her respect she gains the power to transform it. She falls down and gets back up every time to walk towards her heart’s true desire. She sees perfection everywhere and demands it of no one.
She trusts that her love is stronger than any fear. Life is easy for her because she aligns with truth.
Her pure love creates indestructible physical, mental and emotional protective fields that are with her where ever she goes.
She knows that miracles come unexpectedly. She believes in love as the answer to every problem and she expects miracles.
She knows that condemnation leads to weakness of mind, and accepts all as it is. This gives her indestructible strength.
She knows when she ignores or dismisses something, it always comes back to visit until she accepts it with love. So, she practices being deeply present with all things and completely free in each moment.
The sacred fool is an archetype of Spirit and a guide on the path to mastery. She reminds us that to start over with a child’s mind is divinity at work. To do this requires deep compassion for ourselves and others, and forgiveness.
‘Let go or be dragged’ is a Zen proverb that illuminates the wisdom and divine energy of the sacred fool. The fool is always letting go, ready to start over with nothing, she is eternally excited about what is ahead and has no need to carry anything with her. As she lets go and walks forward, she steps into a sacred power that is indestructible.
Embodying the energy & wisdom of the sacred fool is a pathway to working within the quantum field. Quantum healing describes a process in which healing happens within many tiny particles and waves that although not visible to the human eye, shape our physical reality. The sacred fool shows us how to lift our perspective up and out of the 3rd dimension and live in alignment with a higher spiritual truth. This truth forms the structure of the quantum field and is the source of all healing.
The Ego of Embodiment
In my most recent retreat I was telling a story about my first USUI Reiki Teachers that led to an epiphany about the ego for me. Here is the story:
During my first USUI Reiki training, which happened when I was about 26, I did not feel any of the attunements, I really did not feel anything. But during my second training, which was about 10 years later, I felt so deeply it gave me renewed faith in USUI Reiki and the entire process of attunements. I attributed my experience to the way each teacher showed up for their work. The first teacher was a part-time USUI Reiki Master and also worked in real estate. The second USUI Reiki Master teacher delivered attunements as her full time work. I found myself unconsciously judging one teacher as being ‘better’ than the other - one teacher ‘embodying the light’ more than the other.
An awful feeling rose up in me after comparing my teachers during the retreat, it was a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I could only resolve in meditation. During my meditation, I prayed and asked for forgiveness. I spent hours that day releasing guilt and blame and judgement. I had a deep realization that creating separation within one's mind always leads to suffering.
I created a separation between my teachers from my egoic mind. I did not feel my first attunements because I was shut down and blocked - and it was not because my Reiki Master Teacher was not ‘embodying’ the light of Reiki or because she worked part time. My judgement of who was ‘embodying the light’ created separation and was grounded in ego. In Spirit, both teachers embodied the light in different ways and I accepted the level of light that I was capable of at that time.
When I met my first teacher I was completely shut down energetically - and unconscious of it. She was simple and kind and accessible and her spirit was warm. During that training it was the first time that I learned I was able to clairvoyantly see sacred geometric forms. It opened my eyes to a new life as a healer and she was a gateway for me - even if I never ‘felt’ attunements, she was my first USUI Reiki Teacher and my work with her changed my life.
When I became an USUI Reiki Master and met my second teacher, we never spoke or met in person. We only communicated via email. But the attunements were so strong that I had a deeper understanding of the attunement process. I understood, even though I was not able to verbalize it then, the concept of ‘embodying the light’.
We attract the teacher we are ready to learn from. I attracted the first teacher and the second teacher from different points of readiness. I realized that to truly value all of my teachers was to view them as equals. It was also necessary to value myself as one with them. In the past, I valued myself less when I was working a second job in addition to healing to support myself. I unconsciously believed that I was less ‘worthy’ as a healer unless I was doing it ‘full time’. This was not true, but it was a belief my ego had held in the shadows for many years and it came out during the retreat!
Mastery will always call upon us to face our weaknesses and our shadows. Loyalty to our highest self requires being honest about weakness and illuminating the shadows of our minds with light. To trust in the invisible self that we know in our hearts we are here to embody, and follow that path - through difficult times and struggle - brings the master out of us.
Slaying the Demon
The ‘demon’ in healing is the thoughts within the mind that believe in separation. The ‘demon’ believes that we are separate and that one is ‘better than’ or 'worse than' another. The 'demon' condemns and attacks. We all have these ‘demons’ that show up for us.
The ‘demon’ lives in the shadows; these are the thoughts that are not of the light, that are not of virtue.
The shadow projects. The shadow's job is to shape thoughts and images projected from the ‘demon’.
The ego protects the shadow unconsciously because it is always seeking safety. This means when we are acting from pure ego, we defend the separation, the perception of 'right' and 'wrong', 'better than' and 'less than' because it makes us feel safe.
To project onto others a ‘lack of value’ is a tool of the ego to protect the shadow - to feel safer.
To be conscious of the ego and the shadow is part of the cure. It requires us to slow down and maintain our attention on the light. We can see through the ego and the demons and the shadows more easily when we work daily with the light of Spirit in meditation and after prayer.
The master does not know all things, only in her experience can she truly know completely. I never talk about my teachers to anyone - so doing it in this format was like hearing myself think out loud. In my meditation I was given the gift of reframing my entire experience and seeing it from a higher perspective.
Sharing this story at the retreat, in this sacred container that I created, shifted me at my core. It brought me into a deeper appreciation of the truth of my experience. It helped me to value myself more through aligning with the truth. I realized at a deep level that when I bathe myself in the light, I can change my perspective of an experience and the impact it has on me.
To slay the ‘demon’, we must look into all thoughts of separation and acknowledge the love and beauty that exists at the center of everyone and everything. To slay the ‘demon’, we look into it’s center and see the innocence and the love present.
Whether we are aware or not - we are both shaping and being shaped by a collective field of vibrating frequencies of light. There are layers of these energies flowing and co-creating forms at all times. When we consciously bring our attention to the light within ourselves and all others, we are simultaneously being and becoming conduits of healing.
The sacred fool, the ego and the demon are all energies that take different shapes as they operate in our lives. We can choose each day over and over again how we will interact. Each choice shapes our ability to heal and to experience Heaven on Earth. Choosing to see the innocence, love and perfection that is always unfolding is real WORK and I am here with you showing up for it everyday!
